To complete the course, students submit 6 online written assignments. Each assignment is usually around 2,000 to 3,000 words and is based on the course modules. There are no formal written exams for this qualification.

After successfully passing the course, students will receive an OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Engineering. This qualification can support progression to higher-level engineering study, undergraduate pathways, or future technical roles.

Course Modules

The Level 3 Diploma in Engineering includes 6 modules. Each module is designed to introduce learners to essential engineering concepts, technical calculations, design principles, electricity, mechanics, statistics, and mathematics.

Engineering Principles

This module introduces the core principles used in engineering. Students learn about SI units, measurement, engineering calculations, and how to interpret technical and engineering information accurately.

Design Technology

This module helps learners understand engineering products, design methods, and technical drawing. Students explore a systems approach to electrical design and develop the ability to produce 2D CAD drawings.

Electricity

This module focuses on basic electrical components and circuit theory. Students learn about AC and DC circuits, circuit design, power supplies, and power system protection.

Mechanics

This module introduces the study of motion, forces, energy, and elasticity. Learners explore how objects move, how energy changes within systems, and how mechanical principles are applied in engineering contexts.

Introducing Statistics

This module helps students understand the basic concepts used in statistical analysis. Learners study different types of data, how data is represented, and how to calculate and interpret statistical diagrams and measures.

Mathematics

This module develops the mathematical skills needed for engineering problems. Students study algebra, geometry, graphs, exponentials, logarithms, trigonometry, and calculus in engineering-related contexts.

Assignment Units

To complete the Level 3 Engineering course, students must submit written assignments for the following units:

  1. Engineering Principles
  2. Design Technology
  3. Electricity
  4. Mechanics
  5. Introducing Statistics
  6. Mathematics

Students receive support for each module and assignment through the tutor section of the online learning platform.
